Use Fluox is the generic version of Prozac. Fluoxetine is the active ingredient in Prozac. This generic version acts in the same way to help sufferers of depression and other emotional disorders. Fluoxetine inhibits the absorption of serotonin (a neurotransmitter in the brain) so that the balance of chemicals is corrected, therefore alleviating the symptoms of depression. Dosage Usually taken once or twice a day, depending on what your physician has recommended. Side effects Most common side effects are upset stomach, drowsiness,weakness or tiredness, excitement or anxiety, insomnia, nightmares, dry mouth, skin more sensitive to sunlight than usual, changes in appetite or weight. Precautions This medicine may take up to 4 weeks before this medicine reaches its full effect. Do not stop taking this medicine without checking with your doctor. Do not drive, operate machinery, or do anything else that could be dangerous until you know how you react to this medicine. Use caution when imbibing alcohol. This medicine will add to the effects of alcohol and other depressants. Before you begin taking any new medicine, either prescription or over-the-counter, check with your doctor or pharmacist. For women: if you plan on becoming pregnant, discuss with your doctor the benefits and risks of using this medicine during pregnancy. This medicine is excreted in breast milk. Consult with your doctor about breast feeding. |
